Twenty-five employees came to school to develop further our new garden landscape. New soil was loaded into planters for gardening club, bark was spread across areas and spring bulbs were planted.

School Council visited the Poppy Factory in Richmond. They were given a talk about the reasons we wear poppies leading up to Remembrance Day. Following the talk we were given a full guided tour of the factory and given the opportunity to manufacture our own poppies and wreaths to take back to school. We always hold a special remembrance assembly on 11th November to observe the two-minute silence.

Local residents along Strand on the Green riverfront refurbished a public Victorian drinking fountain. Our children were invited to the ceremony by the Mayor of Hounslow. We attended the ceremony where children were allowed to be the first to take a drink of water. The Mayor’s dog also attended and was the first dog to use the built in dog drinking bowl.

Starbucks Volunteer Day
Our children have met with employees at the Chiswick Park office to discuss the school's needs and as part of a literacy project. Eighty Starbucks employees gave a day of their time in the Summer to help refurbish some areas of our school. Five or six teams spread out across the schools and much time was spent in our garden areas. We were very pleased to be given five giant raised bed planters for our gardening club to use. Starbucks is currently involved in fundraising for our school and we look forward to benefiting from more of their community work in the future.
Visit to Gurdwara
In Key Stage1 we visit many different places of worship. Year 1 visited the Gurdwara in Hounslow. We were all made to feel very welcome. On our way in we took off our shoes before making our way to the prayer hall. We were shown around and were able to ask many questions about Sikhism.
Rainbow
Every now and then we turn to the natural environment for inspiration in our writing and other areas of the curriculum. The snow days were good examples of this. This rainbow appears occasionally overhead. The school enjoys pausing for a few moments to observe its beauty.
Bike Breakfast
Every year we hold a Bike Breakfast for children who cycle to school. The event is always very well attended and reinforces the work carried out towards our School Travel Plan, which has now been awarded ‘outstanding’ status. The healthy breakfast is seen as a celebration for the effort made by children and families of the school who help to reduce carbon emissions.

Many reached up to 20 metres before returning gently to earth by parachute. We held a science exhibition at the end of the day for parents and carers to see evidence of the children’s fantastic science skills.
Stranger Danger

were greeted with rapturous applause and a human tunnel to walk through before being offered hot drinks and biscuits to help them on their way. The following week a lifeboat launched from the Chiswick station and met some of our children outside the school to collect the sponsorship money.
Carols at Care Home
At Christmas our school choir visited Meadowcroft Care Home accompanied by Lewis Allen, pastor of Gunnersbury Baptist Church. The children sang carols to spread some Christmas cheer. They had to negotiate the route drawn on the playground and demonstrate control and safe stopping using their brakes. This year the focus was Safe Scooting and children were encouraged to wear helmets to school. The class, which brought the greatest number of helmets in, was Blue Class and they won the competition to win extra scooting time this term! Scoot to School Day V will take place in the Summer Term 2009.

Plans include a green roof of live plants, which will be seen by children everyday as they travel through this end of the school.

These duties start with a visit to the Upper Room before reporting back to our pupils why we collect food during Harvest for this particular charity.

These are now displayed in our main entrance.

Chinese New Year
We like to learn about different festivals throughout the school year. We really enjoyed the Reception Chinese New Year procession when children danced and paraded in dragon costumes they had made themselves.
School Refurbishment

A start has been made to refurbish our outdoor Reception fence. Painting sessions have been held on Fridays after school. Both parents and staff have already made a huge difference to the appearance of the playground area and we look forward to enjoying the newly painted outdoor area when the task is finished.
