Year 1

A smooth transition to Year 1 means children are ready to engage with the exciting challenges of the KS1 curriculum. A broad, deep and balanced curriculum is planned so that learning is meaningful, connections are made in learning and links are made across different subjects.

The investigative and creative activities encourage children to use a range of thinking skills throughout their learning. Children are increasingly independent and reflect on their own learning and work closely with their classteacher to plan their next learning steps. Daily Literacy and Mathematics lessons are planned according to ability and children are grouped in different ways to maximise their learning. Events, visits and clubs enrich their experience with visits ranging from Kew Gardens, The Discovery Centre and City Learning Centre.
