PSHE is a planned programme of learning through which children acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives now and in the future. It is central to all that we do in our school as it develops the qualities and attributes children need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society. Children are encouraged and supported to develop independence, to voice their views and to work constructively with others. Our annual Healthy Week at the beginning of each year launches a topic which encourages children to eat healthy food, wash their hands regularly, drink lots of water and get lots of sleep; this is then addressed throughout the year in age appropriate ways through, for example, cooking, P.E. lessons, science investigations and every day at lunch and during our active playtimes: we are proud that our children know how to keep themselves healthy. Personal safety is a key aspect of our PSHE programme and children learn to challenge all forms of bullying and peer-pressure and know how to seek help. Our year 2 children complete a basic First Aid course and also learn about fire safety. Our children recycle paper, fruit and milk cartons, and they know why. All children address road safety concerns during our many and varied trips around the local area and into London. Our annual Stay Safe and Happy Week celebrates the fun we can have as individuals and classes, with circle time games and activities which promote children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Assemblies regularly address topics such as setting goals, behaviour, showing respect, kindness and manners as well as the celebration of success and following the school Golden Rules. We maintain the highest aspirations for our children.
